Are the NFL & CBS exploiting the Kansas City Chiefs tragic murder-suicide?

I saw a promo for the game mention how the team is dealing with their "fallen teammate's suicide." It seemed like they were playing up the tragedy for the story and the ratings and completely ignoring the fact that the suicide "victim" first murdered his girlfriend! I don't think they should have televised any portion of that game or mentioned the "story." What do you think?
It's not about reporting the news and I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the promotion of a game by using a tragedy to get more people to watch who otherwise may not because the teams involved suck. It seems to me that they're making light of a murder.
